SPSO Complaints Improvement Conference

We would like to draw your attention to our upcoming SPSO Complaints Improvement Conference which will take place on Tuesday 25 February 2020 at Tynecastle Park, Edinburgh.  We hope you and colleagues from your organisation will be interested in attending as the conference will focus on best practice in complaint handling – especially learning from complaints.  There will be a mixture of presentations and workshops on topics such as resolution, supporting staff and vulnerable people through the complaints process, the use of social media by complainants and the revisions to the on the recent review of the model Complaints Handling Procedure (CHP). 

The attached flyer sets out our agenda for the day and guest speakers.

The event will also be an excellent opportunity to network with sector colleagues. 

It is not a public event, but is designed for public sector staff, advice agencies and academics for whom learning from complaints to improve services is a key part of their work or research.  Specifically, it will be of interest to:

  • Those with lead responsibility for monitoring and improving organisational performance
  • Managers responsible for organisational learning from complaints
  • Quality Assurance Managers
  • Complaints and customer service managers, including staff who handle and investigate complaints
  • Organisations with an interest in consumer redress.

Peter Tyndall reappointed as Irish Ombudsman and Information Commissioner

We are delighted to announce that Peter Tyndall has been reappointed as Ireland’s Ombudsman and Information Commissioner. He was first appointed to the roles in December 2013.

In 2016, he was elected President of the International Ombudsman Institute. Ireland will host the World IOI Conference in Dublin from 17 to 22 May 2020.

As Ombudsman, Peter Tyndall is also a member of the Standards in Public Office Commission, the Commission for Public Service Appointments, the Referendum Commission, and the Constituency Committee.

As Information Commissioner Peter Tyndall is also the Commissioner for Environmental Information.

Irish President Michael D. Higgins reappointed Peter Tyndall for a second six year term-of-office on 3 December 2019.
