The Parliamentary Ombudsman has today become the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) pursuant to the United Nations (UN) Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT). The National Preventive Mechanism conducts inspections of places in which persons deprived of their liberty are held.
