Ombudsman delivered a speech in a conference on creation of effective reactive mechanism in combating domestic violence

A conference creation of effective reactive mechanism in combating domestic violence was co-organized by State Committee on Family, Woman and Child Affairs, UNFPA and USAID.
Elmira Suleymanova, the Commissioner for Human Rights also attended the event.
In her speech the Commissioner focused on development the country the work done in the filed of human rights, improvement of national legislation, its compliance with international standards and achievements in this regard.
She said three main strategic documents were adopted on human rights: State Program on Protection of Human Rights (1998), National Plan of Action on Protection of Human Rights in the Republic of Azerbaijan (2006) and National Program for Action to Raise Effectiveness of the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms in the Republic of Azerbaijan (2011).
It was noted that these documents can be as a model for the National Action Plan on Elimination of and Combating Domestic Violence to be drafted as they envisage proposals and recommendations for improvement of legislation on woman rights and gender equality, as  well as on creating equal opportunities.
She appreciated cooperation between the Ombudsman Office State Committee on Family, Woman and Child Affairs in this field.
E. Suleymanova stressed the importance of public awareness for prevention of domestic violence, expressed her support to creation of coordination committee among agencies in combating gender based violence and adoption of National Action Plan on Elimination of and Combating Domestic Violence
