Ces 4 et 5 octobre 2017, l'Association des Ombudsmans et Médiateurs de la Francophonie (AOMF) a tenu une réunion de son Bureau à Fredericton au Nouveau-Brunswick (Canada), à l'invitation de l’Ombudsman du Nouveau-Brunswick, M. Charles MURRAY.

El 26 de septiembre del corriente tuvo lugar el Taller sobre Agenda 2030 y el Rol de las Defensorías del Pueblo organizado por el Consejo de Derechos Humanos de la Defensoría del Pueblo de CABA. El Taller estuvo dirigido a las/los trabajadores/as de la Defensoría del Pueblo con el fin de introducir a los miembros de la Defensoría en el contenido y alcance de la Agenda 2030 y los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS). El encuentro contó con la participación de aproximadamente 200 personas.

During an investigation concerning the separation of a prisoner from the general population for 66 days, the Ombudsman South Australia found that the Department of Correctional Services had, first, failed to document confidential intelligence and an operational risk assessment to justify its decision. Second, the Department's direction that a prisoner be kept separately and apart from other prisoners was unjust and oppressive. The Ombudsman is concerned that the Department has indicated that it may not implement some of his recommendations.

The Ombudsman of Hong Kong, Ms Connie Lau, hosted the 21st Presentation Ceremony of The Ombudsman’s Awards on 11 October 2017. At the Ceremony, she encouraged tripartite co-operation among the Office of the Ombudsman, members of the public and organisations under complaint to bring about further enhancement in the quality and efficiency of public administration through the lodging and handling of complaints.

Ombudsman Toronto released its Enquiry Report recommending that the City of Toronto repay $462,000 to a senior after selling his house in a tax sale.

On 28 September 2017, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. László Székely and experts from our Office (OPCAT experts Head of Department Dr. Gergely Fliegauf and Deputy Head of Department Dr. Katalin Haraszti) paid a visit to the Sopronköhida Prison together with three experts from the Austrian Ombudsman Board, in order to exchange their experience focusing on the OPCAT NPM.

Public Protector Adv. Busisiwe Mkhwebane is conducting an own-initiative investigation into allegations of maladministration, corruption and imprudent use of public funds by the Umzimkhulu Municipality in connection with the appointment and payment of service providers for the refurbishment of the dilapidated Umzimkhulu Memorial Hall.

The Public Defender of Georgia has presented an updated, quarterly bulletin. The document provides information about, for example, monitoring of closed institutions, special reports and successful cases.

The Ombudsman of the Solomon Islands published the first edition of the Office’s 2017 bi-annual newsletter. It has been quite a while since the last edition of the newsletter was published and the Office decided to revive the publication as an important platform to educate citizens on the roles of the Ombudsman.
