On 17 and 18 October the Ombudsman hosted in Athens a FReM II meeting of the European programme for the external control of forced return operations of aliens.

Speaking at the meeting’s opening session, Mr. Andreas Pottakis underlined the particular importance of the presence of human rights monitors to return operations of aliens and focused on independent operations and accountability issues of the external control mechanism, at European level.
