UN global international campaign “Stand up for Human Rights” has been started in the country

The Commissioner held international conference on 10 December-International Human rights day
Elmira Suleymanova, the Commissioner for Human Rights, together with UNHCR and UNICEF organized international conference on 10 December-International Human Rights Day.
Members of the Parliament, representatives of state bodies, international and non-governmental organizations and mass media participated in the event.
The Commissioner congratulated participants on this Day and provided information about the history of the day.
It was noted that UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein urged everybody to ‘Stand up for Human Rights” and to join a year-long campaign on 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Azerbaijani Ombudsman started the campaign in the country and called all state bodies, international organizations, local NGOs, communities and mass-media to cooperate in this regard.
It was said events will be held with participation of NGOs and media for promotion of this urge.
Moreover, in her speech E. Suleymanova focused on the work carried out by the Ombudsman Office for protection of human rights, including the rights of refugees and IDPs, persons with disabilities, children, women, convicts, and other groups of population, as well as activity and achievements of the Office within the framework of legal awareness work and international cooperation.
At the end of the event award ceremony of journalist articles competition “Rights for All” and child art competition “Me and my Rights” held by Ombudsman and UNHCR was organized. 6 journalists and 9 children were presented Certificates and cash gift. Moreover, 23 children were presented motivating certificates.
