On regular basis the Ombudsman meet the different representatives of the CoE and informs them on the activities of the Institution.
Recently the Ombudsman met with Dunja Mijatović, the CoE Commissioner for Human Rights, at the Office of the Ombudsman Institution.
In the meeting the Ombudsman spoke about the bilateral cooperation with and implementation of the obligations undertaken by Azerbaijan before the CoE. It was also stressed the active work of the National Preventive Mechanisms. The guests were informed about awareness events on application of European standards in the state bodies, penitentiary institutions, psychiatric facilities for the staff members, also about monitoring of implementation of the Law on Access to Information by the Ombudsman and procedure of online application to the Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman informed the guest about 65 pardoning and 11 amnesty acts and said that as a result of the Ombudsman’s motions 692 convicts were released.
Another meeting was held with the Ombudsman and Caterina Bolognese, the Head of Gender Equality Division, Sara Haapalainen, Policy Adviser of Capacity-building and co-operation projects of Gender Equality Division at the Office of the Ombudsman Institution. The priority of the discussion was the issue of gender equality in the country.
In the meeting the Ombudsman mentioned that the Convention against Discrimination in Education and Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities have been signed and ratified, as well as proposals were made for ratification of the Convention on Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.
700 proposals of the Ombudsman were addressed to state bodies with the purpose of effectively ensuring human rights; most of them have been implemented. It was also noted that gender-related activity of the Ombudsman was positively evaluated by GANHRI.
