On Thursday, 9 November the public part of the conference will begin at 14.30 with a lecture on migration by Sally Hayden, author of My Fourth Time, We Drowned: Seeking Refuge on the World’s Deadliest Migration Route. This will be followed by a statement by Margaritis Schinas, European Commission Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life and then by a panel discussion on how the EU is dealing with migration and its implications for fundamental rights.
The second panel discussion, beginning at 16.30, will take a look at how public administrations are using AI and what the potential benefits and risks are. Michael O’Flaherty, director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, will start off the session with an introductory speech on the fundamental rights implications of AI. The day will finish with a guest speech by Jean-Marc Lieberherr, President of the Jean Monnet Institute, and a stand-up dinner.
On Friday, 10 November, the conference will be for members of the Network. The first part of the discussion will focus on the importance of having high ethics standards in public life and will feature an introductory message from Vĕra Jourová, European Commission Vice-President for Values and Transparency, who has been involved in setting up an ethics body for the EU administration.
The final panel will look ahead to the European elections in June 2024, including a discussion on the Parliament’s possible political shape in 2024-2029 as well as the precise steps and timetable for the European Ombudsman election, which will take place late in 2024. The conference will finish at 13.00.

Conference venue
The conference will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels in the SPAAK building. You will receive your access badges in the Accreditation Centre, situated in Simone Veil entrance at Esplanade Solidarność.
