Provisional Deal Reached on New Standards for Equality Bodies
On 12 December, the Parliament and Council negotiators secured a provisional agreement on the proposed Directive for Standards for Equality Bodies, in relation to the ground of gender in employment. This proposal for legislation ensures Equality Bodies' independence from external influences or government directives, adequate resources aligned with national budgets, and alternative dispute resolution methods like mediation. Pending formal approval from the EU Parliament and Council, these rules await implementation. Measuring Standards for Equality Bodies: Indicators for Self-Assessment
At the High-Level Conference on "Addressing the needs for Common Standards for Equality Bodies" on 14 December in Berlin, we presented a compilation of indicators for self-assessment on Standards for Equality Bodies. Developed by the Equinet Project on Standards for Equality Bodies, the new indicators for self-assessment on Resources have been merged with previously published indicators focusing on Mandate and Independence, creating a comprehensive compilation. These indicators are designed to help European Institutions, Member States and Equality Bodies themselves to monitor the situation and to identify any necessary improvements to the status and work of Equality Bodies.
