This workshop will bring together the European Commission, National Authorities, Equality Bodies’ staff members and Civil Society Organisations. It will explore how Equality Bodies can and should contribute to National Roma Strategic Frameworks.

Position Paper: Moving forward the European Commission’s proposals for Directives strengthening Equality Bodies
The two proposed Directives on binding standards for Equality Bodies will ensure better implementation of EU equal treatment legislation and more equal societies. Equinet and Equality Bodies hope for the most ambitious set of standards to be included in the legislation. We recently published a Position Paper that highlights where we would like to see amendments that could improve the legislative proposals.

Perspective: Equality Bodies and reasonable accommodation beyond the ground of disability
This new Equinet publication addresses the extension of the concept and provision of reasonable accommodation beyond the ground of disability,  to other grounds of discrimination, such as racial or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or belief, age and gender. 
 

#Sanctions&Remedies

Report: Preventing and reacting to discrimination through sanctions and remedies
This new Equinet report assesses to what extent current European sanctions regimes can be considered effective, proportionate, and dissuasive, identifying challenges and good practices regarding sanctions in non-discrimination law. Further, it formulates recommendations as to whether and how they should be amended, potentially learning from consumer protection law and data protection law.

The European Network Against Racism is celebrating their 25 years fighting racism in Europe. The theme of their 25th Anniversary is #MakeRacismHistory and ENAR is launching a competition for artists to propose a design that reflects this theme. The winner’s design will feature into the 25th Anniversary apparel collection, events and campaigns taking place throughout the year.

Report: Equal access to affordable, quality essential services
The European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) recently published a report on the access to affordable quality essential services . The report addresses this topic in relation to overarching challenges such as the digital and green transition and includes recommendations to national and EU policy-makers.

 

#Disability

Public consultation on the European Disability Card
The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the European Disability Card. You can contribute to the consultation by filling an online questionnaire by 5 May 2023. The consultation is available in all EU languages, in accessible and easy-to-read format.

 


Thematic report: Transformation of services for persons with disabilities
In this recently published report, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities  presents a study on a new services model that allows persons with disabilities to live independently and be included in the community. 


Study on accessibility to banking services
Ombudsman's Office of Latvia has recently published a study looking in the accessibility for people with physical, sensory, and mental impairments to banking services in the country. While the study identified examples of good practices, it concluded that improvements are needed to ensure accessibility to the physical, information and digital environments. The Ombudsman emphasises the need for banks to consult with organisations of people with disabilities.

Have your say: Perceptions and experiences of antisemitism
The EU Fundamental Rights Agency has opened its 3rd survey on ‘Perceptions and Experiences of Antisemitism’ among self-identified Jews in selected EU Member States. The survey aims a creating an evidence-based portrait of the perceptions of antisemitism and life as a European Jew. Please disseminate this survey for a more rich and diverse representation of Jewish experiences!

Report: Improving legal responses to counter femicide in the European Union – Perspectives from victims and professionals
The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) published a report on femicide, collecting the perspectives of both legal professionals and victims, in order to provide a more complete picture of the flaws in the legal systems, such as the lack of immediate action following a report of violence.
50:50 by 2030: A longitudinal study into gender disparity in law – Spain results Report
This recently published report is part of a global project aimed at studying the lack of gender parity for senior levels of the legal profession and at assessing the impact of initiatives to address such inequality. In Spain, women account for 54% of legal professionals but only 31% are represented in top positions. Read the report to learn more on gender inequality in law in Spain!

European Diversity Month 2023
The European Commission has launched the official website page of the European Diversity Month, taking place in May. This year’s theme is building bridges between organizations and areas of inclusion and diversity policy. All organisations, institutions and companies are encouraged to participate and organize activities or events, as well as build cooperations with each other.

ILGA Europe’s 2023 Annual Review
ILGA Europe published its latest Annual Review, covering the legal, political and social developments occurred in 2022 in Europe and Central Asia. According to ILGA Europe, 2022 was the most violent year for LGBTI people in the region. Learn more in the Annual Review!
