IOI | Extension of deadline: Tender for IOI regional subsidies 2024/2025The IOI Board of Directors decided at their Board meeting held in The Hague in May 2024 to continue the regional subsidy programme for the membership year 2024/2025. Members wishing to apply for regional subsidies can submit project proposals until 19 August 2024.

HONG KONG, CHINA | First International Ombudsman Summit will be held in celebration of Office’s 35th Anniversary2024 marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Office of the Ombudsman in Hong Kong, China. To commemorate this important milestone, the Office will be hosting the first International Ombudsman Summit with the theme “Ombudsman in a Changing World: Learning from the Past; Preparing for the Future” on 3 December 2024 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.

PERÚ | Defensoría del Pueblo: baja ejecución presupuestal para mitigar efectos de heladas y friaje podría afectar a más de 824 mil personasLa Defensoría del Pueblo advierte que más de 824 mil personas en todo el territorio nacional podrían verse afectadas en su integridad y en sus medios de subsistencia, debido a la baja ejecución de los presupuestos que han sido destinados para mitigar los efectos de las heladas y friaje. En ese sentido, instó a los tres niveles de gobierno a intervenir de manera oportuna y eficiente en aquellas zonas en las que la población esté más expuesta a dichos fenómenos naturales.

BELGIQUE | Près de 1200 signalements de lanceurs d’alerte dans le secteur privé en 2023En 2023, première année d'application de la nouvelle loi sur les lanceurs d’alerte, les autorités compétentes ont traité 1010 signalements, qui ont donné lieu à 840 enquêtes. A ce chiffre, il faut ajouter les 209 signalements du secteur privé reçus par le Médiateur fédéral, qui en a transmis 22 aux autorités compétentes pour suivi.

ESPAÑA | El Defensor del Pueblo solicita información a las comunidades autónomas sobre los retrasos en la valoración de personas con discapacidadEl Defensor del Pueblo, Ángel Gabilondo, ha iniciado actuaciones de oficio con los departamentos competentes de las comunidades autónomas y las ciudades autónomas de Ceuta y Melilla para recabar información sobre las demoras que se están produciendo en la valoración de personas con discapacidad. El número de quejas de los ciudadanos por esta causa se ha triplicado en los últimos cinco años y, según ha podido constatar la institución, los retrasos llegan a ser de hasta tres años en algunas regiones.

PORTUGAL | Ombudsman challenges ISS position on unemployment benefit for victims of domestic violenceThe Ombudsman’s Office has pleaded with the Social Security Institute (ISS) the right to unemployment benefits for victims of domestic violence who have terminated their employment contracts under the terms of the Decent Work Agenda Law, in force since May 2023. A different position is being adopted by the ISS, which only recognises this right in cases of termination after 1 December 2023.

Monsieur SAKHO Mactar, Secrétaire Général du Médiateur de la République du Sénégal, a prononcé la conférence inaugurale sur le thème: « Les Médiateurs de l’espace UEMOA à l’épreuve des principes internationaux relatifs aux Institutions de Médiation », mettant en lumière les défis et les opportunités pour les Médiateurs de l’espace UEMOA.

The NSW Ombudsman holds agencies to account for the services they provide to the people of NSW, achieving positive outcomes for the complainants. Casebook July 2024 is the first of what will be biannual reports featuring case studies illustrating how the NSW Ombudsman achieves those outcomes.
