On November 20-21, 2025, Mariam Botchorishvili, a representative of the Equality Department of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia, participated in the conference and study visit - “Access to Justice for Victims of Discrimination” organized by the European Network of Equality Bodies (EQUINET) in Stockholm.
At the conference, members of the European Network equality ombudsmen and the legislation group discussed the role of equality bodies in access to justice for victims of discrimination. They also spoke about how the new equality directives can create additional opportunities to strengthen anti-discrimination mechanisms. The representative of the Public Defender provided the participants with information about the practice of the Public Defender as a national mechanism for combating discrimination.
Within the framework of the event, organized by the Swedish Equality Ombudsman, members of the European Network learned about Sweden's practice in terms of protection of victims of discrimination, strategic litigation and representation in judicial bodies.
The Public Defender's Office will continue to actively participate in the work of the European Network of Equality Bodies (EQUINET) in the future.
