The first European Forum on Environmental Human Rights Defenders will take place at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg from 3 to 4 June. The FRA Director, Sirpa Rautio, will deliver opening remarks at the Forum.
The agenda was developed in close consultation with environmental human rights defenders.
It is a cooperation initiative from the UN’s Human Rights Office, the Council of Europe and FRA, and the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on Environmental Defenders under the Aarhus Convention, the UNECE Aarhus Convention secretariat, several Human Rights Council Special Procedure mandate holders, and civil society organisations active in Europe.
The participants will address challenges, share experiences, and promote stronger protection for Environmental Human Rights Defenders. Participating organisations will showcase their work and resources, and connect with peers.
