Ombudsman LLM Mr. Faton Seljami held a working meeting with Mr. Erdžan Demir, Minister without Portfolio in the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, responsible for the integration and implementation of the Strategy for Roma Inclusion 2022–2030. The meeting addressed several issues related to the work of the Ombudsman institution—primarily its mandate and operating procedures—as well as the volume of complaints, specifically focusing on the areas where the Roma community submits the highest number of complaints.
Both parties agreed on the necessity of promoting human rights and freedoms, particularly among the Roma population, and emphasized that greater attention should be paid in the future to areas such as housing, social and health protection, and education. According to Ombudsman LLM Faton Seljami, the institution's statistics show that the highest number of complaints from members of the Roma community are filed in these specific areas; he also expressed readiness for more intensive cooperation in the coming period to raise public awareness about the Ombudsman institution. Minister Erdžan Demir informed the Ombudsman that a new coordinating body has been established to monitor the implementation of the Strategy for Roma Inclusion, and that representatives from all ministries, as well as from the Commission for Prevention of and Protection against Discrimination, are participating in it.
