Public Defender Meets with Members of PACE Monitoring Committee

On January 15, 2025, Levan Ioseliani, Public Defender of Georgia, and Tamar Gvaramadze, First Deputy Public Defender, met with members of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Claude Kern, Edite Estrela and Bas Klein.
The meeting discussed the events developed in the country after the parliamentary and presidential elections, disproportionate use of force by the police, condition of detainees, and the supervision of ongoing investigations by the Public Defender.
The guests also showed interest in the possibility of the Public Defender’s participation in the law-making activities and the degree of compliance of the current national legislative space with European legislation.
