Public Defender Meets with Special Representative of OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in South Caucasus

On June 12, 2025, the Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, met with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in the South Caucasus, Ambassador, Christoph Späti.

The parties discussed the rights situation of conflict-affected population in Georgia, with particular attention paid to illegal detentions along the occupation line and frequent cases of illegal imprisonment. They also discussed the challenges facing residents of the occupied territories, including freedom of movement, access to education and health care.

Other topics discussed were the violation of the right to property of residents of villages located along the occupation line as a result of illegal “borderization”, deprivation of life due to so-called border crossings and other problems, which gradually leads to the depopulation of villages adjacent to the occupation line.

The meeting was also attended by Elene Ghudushauri, Deputy Public Defender of Georgia, and Camille Marquette, Policy Support Officer, Conflict Prevention Center, OSCESecretariat.
