The Ombudsman on the progress of the disciplinary probe of the Pylos shipwreck

While 15 months have elapsed since the completion of the Ombudsman's own initiative inquiry into acts and omissions of senior and top-level officials of the Coast Guard regarding the multi-fatal shipwreck of the fishing vessel Adriana off the coast of Pylos on 14/6/2023, the prescribed disciplinary procedures have yet to be initiated. During this period, two successive heads of the Hellenic Coast Guard have been discharged from their duties due to retirement.

The Ombudsman, Mr. Andreas Pottakis, had publicly stated last November that the Administration's obstructionism "contributes little to boosting the morale of the cadres of the Hellenic Coast Guard, the men and women who perform their duty honorably and scrupulously. Just as it does little to protect the prestige of the Force and its international reputation".
