Today, the Chancellor of Justice was visited by the Ukrainian Parliamentary Ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, together with a delegation of members of the Ukrainian Parliament. During the meeting, the complex work of the Ukrainian Ombudsman in wartime conditions was discussed.
Dmytro Lubinets expressed deep concern for the thousands of Ukrainian children who have been illegally deported to Russia by the Russian authorities from the occupied territories of Ukraine. Lubinets highlighted that, according to Ukrainian data, over 19,000 children have been deported in recent years, many of whom remain in unknown locations on Russian territory. "Bringing each child back is a tremendous effort and requires international pressure," added Lubinets.
During the meeting, Dmytro Lubinets thanked Estonia for its support and solidarity and emphasized that Ukrainian authorities are working closely with international partners to gather evidence and initiate legal proceedings regarding Russia's war crimes.
The Ukrainian Parliamentary Ombudsman is an independent national institution responsible for monitoring and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms in Ukraine. During the war, the role of the Ombudsman has expanded to include documenting war crimes and human rights violations, including the illegal deportation of children and attacks against civilians.
