In 2021 the Ombudsman published a report, Wasted Lives, of his investigation into younger people in nursing homes which made recommendations to the HSE to improve the situation. Since then, the Ombudsman has been monitoring the HSE’s progress in implementing the recommendations and has received regular updates from the HSE. The Ombudsman has welcomed the progress being made by the HSE and will continue to monitor the situation.
