The UN CRPD Committee considered the initial report of the European Union (EU) (CRPD/C/ EU /1) this year and published a number of concluding observations on September 7.

Under the Convention, the EU is required to put in place a mechanism ("Framework") to monitor compliance with, and to protect and promote the rights arising under, the Convention. The European Ombudsman is a member of this Framework along with the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) and the European Disability Forum (EDF). Our task is to monitor the performance of the EU administration and to promote the Convention at EU level.
