August 7, 2015 the Senate approved the appointment of dr. Adam Bodnar to the position of Human Rights Defender. In a secret ballot the choice of the Vice-President of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights was supported by 41 senators, 39 were against and 2 abstained. The new Ombudsman will take office after taking the oath before the Sejm.

Adam Bodnar will be the seventh Human Rights Defender.
