Greater efforts must be made to understand that the problem of attacks on the media does not just apply to countries beyond the EU’s borders. Legislation in this area must be better implemented if the EU and its Member States are to protect journalists and their freedom to write and report without fears for their safety or their livelihood, said FRA Director Michael O’Flaherty at the European Commission’s second Annual Colloquium on Fundamental Rights, which took place in Brussels on 17-18 November.
