(PETI) Treatment of citizens’ petitions by the EU institutions: discussion with experts

On Wednesday, the Committee on Petitions will discuss with representative of other EU institutions and experts how to respond better to people’s concerns raised via citizens’ petitions.
MEPs will look in particular into the role of the European Commission in the treatment of petitions and assess ways to improve its cooperation with the Parliament to the benefit of citizens and to better take petitions into account in political decisions.
The guest speakers include, among others:
- EU Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly,
- Professor Alberto Alemanno (HEC Paris) and David Lowe, former Head of Unit for the Committee on Petitions, and
- Raquel Cortes-Herrera and René Slootjes, of the European Commission.
