New Equinet Strategic Plan and Work Plan
On 5 October, Equinet’s members gathered in Brussels for the Annual General Meeting. During the day the members discussed, voted for and unanimously approved the Equinet 2023-2026 Strategic Plan and the Equinet 2023 Work Plan, which are now available on our website.
Equinet Executive Board Changes
Following Laurence Bond ‘s decision to resign from his position as Director of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, the Equinet Board was left with an empty seat. The Equinet Board has invited Kalliopi Lykovardi, Deputy Ombudsperson for Equal Treatment at the Greek Ombudsman, to be a new member of the Board. The Equinet Secretariat is delighted to welcome Kalliopi back to the Board and excited to work together to continue supporting our network!
Welcome the new Heads in our Network
The Institution of Human Rights Ombudsman of Bosnia and Herzegovina has recently appointed three new ombudpersons: Dr Jasminka Džumhur, Nives Jukić and Dr Nevenko Vranješ’. The Italian National Office Against Racial Discrimination (UNAR) has now a new coordinator: Mattia Peradotto.

Equinet mourns the loss of Austrian Disability Ombud
We are saddened by the recent passing of Austrian Disability Ombud, Hansjörg Hofer. He was a valued member of the Equinet network and a committed advocate for people with disabilities in Austria. We extend our sincere condolences to the Austrian Disability Ombud’s staff, the family and friends of Mr.Hofer.

Latvian Ombudsman launches a new accessible website
On 20 July, the Latvian Ombudsman’s office launched a new website, which is more user-friendly and accessible to people with disabilities. This is the result of extensive research, cooperation with experts and the discussion that took place at Equinet’s training on improving the online presence of Equality Bodies last June.

AutoCheck workshops on Automated Decision-Making Systems and Discrimination
The Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency (FADA) and Algorithwatch recently published an autocheck for anti-discrimination and equality centres that want to provide workshops to employees on the anti-discrimination risks by automated-decision making systems.

Practical tips on inclusive communication
Unia, the Interfederal Centre for Equal Opportunities in Belgium, has published a series of practical tips on how to make different forms of communication more inclusive. These tips are available in French and Dutch.

Equal opportunities initiatives in Belgian municipalities
Unia, the Interfederal Centre for Equal Opportunities in Belgium, launched Le Choix Égalité initiative, an online platform to support equal opportunities for all at the level of municipalities. It is available in FrenchDutch and German; and gathers good practices by municipalities and related recommendations.

European Islamophobia Report 2021
On 21st September, the European Action Day Against Islamophobia, the European Islamophobia Report 2021 was launched. The report is edited by Enes Bayarakli and Farid Hafez, and written in collaboration with scholars, experts and civil society activists who contributed to highlight developments of Islamophobia in the EU’s 27 countries.
Call for participation: Gendered Islamophobia and stereotypes against Muslim women
The MAGIC Project (Muslim women and communities Against Gender Islamophobia in soCiety), has launched two calls for participation: a youth essay contest and funding for awareness raising campaigns, both on the topic of gendered Islamophobia and stereotypes against Muslim women. The two calls are open for people and organisations in Spain and Belgium, and the deadline for submissions is 21 October.

Common guiding principles for the national implementation of the EU Anti-racism Discrimination Plan
The European Commission has recently published a list of common guiding principles for the national implementation of the EU Anti-racism Discrimination Plan. The publication gives important suggestions to Member States and to those actors who can play a role in supporting national government during the process of implementation, first and foremost Equality Bodies.

Awareness campaign: Wa Baile v. Switzerland - A case on racial profiling
The Alliance Against Racial Profiling has launched a Europe-wide information campaign on the Wa Baile case against Switzerland. The campaign, targeted at CSOs, governmental anti-discrimination bodies, media and politicians in all Council of Europe countries, aims at highlighting of the importance of the case and its (potential) impact on the legislation and jurisprudence of the countries
