The People’s Advocate Office and Frontex jointly cooperate to ensure the rights of foreigners crossing the border of the Republic of Moldova’

The People’s Advocate Office have signed the Memorandum of Understanding on complaints mechanisms related to actions carried out by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontex in the Republic of Moldova, based on the ‘Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova on operational activities carried out by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency in the Republic of Moldova’

The purpose and objective of this Memorandum of Understanding is to ensure the feasibility of mechanisms of examining complaints regarding all allegations concerning possible fundamental rights violations in the context of operational activities of the Frontex Agency in Moldova. The implementation of the protection mechanisms will allow the identification of possible cases of violation of human rights and the reasoning behind them. Thus, the exchange of information and the notifications addressed to the Ombudsman will allow the prevention and monitoring of cases and situations of violations of fundamental rights within the operational activities carried out by Frontex deployed staff and Moldovan officers on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

Thus, the co-existence of the two mechanisms, that of the Frontex Agency and that of the People’s Advocate Office, will coordinate and cooperate for the effective implementation on ensuring the rights of foreigners crossing the border of the Republic of Moldova.
