Im Jahr 2013 wurden 14.800 Petitionen beim Petitionsausschuss des Deutschen Bundestages eingereicht. Das geht aus dem Jahresbericht zur Tätigkeit des Ausschusses im Jahr 2013 (18/1300) hervor, der am morgigen Donnerstag im Plenum des Bundestages beraten wird. Danach hat sich die Gesamtzahl der Petitionen im Vergleich zum Vorjahr um 924 verringert. Bei 250 Werktagen, so heißt es in dem Bericht weiter, ergebe sich ein täglicher Durchschnitt von etwa 60 Zuschriften. 6.658 davon seien auf elektronischem Wege, also als Web-Formular über www.bundestag.de, eingegangen. „Mit 45 Prozent erreichte der Anteil an elektronisch eingereichten Petitionen damit einen neuen Spitzenwert und führte den Trend weiter, dass immer mehr Bürgerinnen und Bürger das Internet nutzen, um sich mit ihren Anliegen an das Parlament zu wenden“, schreibt der Petitionsausschuss.

The European Ombudsman, Emily O'Reilly, has opened an investigation on her own initiative into respect for fundamental rights in the EU's "cohesion" policy. The Ombudsman has received many complaints in this area, for example about problems small businesses face when accessing EU funds, or from applicants for EU projects who allege discrimination. The Ombudsman's investigation focuses on the Commission's role in ensuring that EU funding is used in ways that comply with the Charter of Fundamental Rights.

On 6 May 2014, Mr Victor Ciorbea took the oath of office before the Presidents of the Chambers of the Romanian Parliament. Mr Ciorbea replaces de previous Ombudsman, Mr Crişu. Der Petitionsausschuss will Opfern von Cybermobbing unter Kindern und Jugendlichen helfen. In der Sitzung am Mittwochmorgen beschloss der Ausschuss daher einstimmig, eine dahingehende Petition dem Bundesministerium für Justiz und Verbraucherschutz „als Material“ zu überweisen und den Fraktionen des Bundestages zur Kenntnis zu geben.

The Committee against Torture positively evaluated the activity of the Human Rights Division of the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office in undergoing the monitoring of detention places but called the Seimas to make a final decision regarding the establishment of National Human Rights Institution in Lithuania as soon as possible.
