Since 2009 the Austrian Ombudsman Board hosts the General Secretariat of the only organisation promoting independent Ombudsman institutions worldwide. The International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), founded in 1987, brings together 160 Ombudsman institutions in around 90 states. Since 2013, Ombudsman Dr. Günther Kräuter holds the position of Secretary General.

Seit Juli 2012 ist die Volksanwaltschaft für den Schutz und die Förderung der Menschenrechte zuständig. In diesem Zusammenhang setzte sie einen Schwerpunkt in Richtung Menschenrechtsbildung für und mit junge(n) Menschen. Im Zuge dessen empfing Volksanwältin Brinek am 05. The European Ombudsman, Emily O'Reilly, regrets that the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) has blocked disclosure of a letter the ECB's then President, Jean-Claude Trichet, wrote to the Irish Finance Minister in November 2010. This follows a complaint from an Irish journalist, who had asked for access to the letter. The letter, sent at the height of the financial crisis, called on the Irish government to take swift action to protect the stability of the Irish financial system.

The Office of the Chancellor of Justice and the Estonian Union for Child Welfare are organising the conference entitled “Bullying-free Education” that will be held on 2 April and opened by Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, who will be visiting Estonia at the time.
