Equality Bodies from across Europe, members of The Ombudswoman of Croatia and European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) Chair Lora Vidović participated in a panel on ‘Strengthening equality bodies within the institutional architecture’, along with the Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) Director Michael O'Flaherty, MEP Ulrike Lunaček and ECRI representative Stefano Valenti. Vidović presented ENNHRI's work, including the ongoing cooperation between Equality Bodies and National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) and their respective networks.
“Both Equality Bodies and NHRIs hold crucial positions in the institutional framework to promote and protect human rights and equality across Europe. They are each important in themselves, and even more impactful when they cooperate together, be it inside one institution, between institutions, or between their representative networks”, said Vidović.
Tena Šimonović Einwalter, Deputy Ombudswoman, moderator of the Equinet Working Group on Policy Formation and ECRI member, participated in a panel discussion on “EU equality agenda: developments and ways forward”. Šimonović Einwalter underlined the contribution the Equality Bodies can make in the process of creating EU antidiscrimination policies. “Given the position of equality bodies as first point of contact for victims of discrimination, as well as their contribution to the implementation of EU equal treatment legislation at national level, it is essential to ensure that equality bodies are involved in any review of EU legislation", concluded Šimonović Einwalter.
