The Seimas Ombudsman Augustinas Normantas, in his latest thematic report on the human rights situation in detention facilities, notes that following the urgent transfer of convicts from Lukiškės Remand Prison to other prisons, the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office received a significant number of complaints, and the constant flood of information about the potentially violated rights of transferred convicts has raised his concerns about the current situation.

The report presented by the Seimas Ombudsman assesses the quality of detention of prisoners, the conditions of detention and hygiene, as well as the provision of material and domestic supplies. The Seimas Ombudsman notes, however, that one of the most sensitive topics assessed during the investigation was the transfer of convicts

Prof. András Sajó received the Honorary Medal "For Merit To Human Rights Protection" from the Commissioner for Human Rights, Adam Bodnar. 

András Sajó is a retired judge (Vice President) of the European Court of Human Rights were he served between 2008 and 2017.

The Ombudsman is pleased to publish the first in-depth Equality Plan, representing a step-change in how the office will support and promote equality both as a service provider and an employer.

The plan covers the period 2019/20 – 2021/22 and details specific actions that will be undertaken in 2019/20.
