La adjunta segunda de la Diputación del Común, Milagros Fuentes, participó como ponente en el XXXII Congreso de la Sociedad Canaria de Geriatría y Gerontología celebrado en Santa Cruz de La Palma y organizado por la Sociedad Canaria de Geriatría y Gerontología, el Cabildo de La Palma y el Hospital de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores El Congreso.  

Dear Madam, dear Sir,

The EU directive on whistleblowers, adopted in 2019, will have to be implemented by the twenty-eight member states of the European Union in the next two years.

In France, the Defender of Rights, an independent constitutional authority, is the competent institution designated by the Act No. 2016-1691 of 9 December 2016 on transparency, the fight against corruption and the modernization of economic life, to orient and protect whistleblowers.

Three years after this mechanism was created, and two years before the European directive is implemented,  we want to gather all the stakeholders that are involved and experts in the field, in a major European conference in Paris, in order to foster the emergence of recommendations to consolidate and increase the protection of whistleblowers.

This day will be an opportunity for personalities from various backgrounds- sociologists, lawyers, public authorities, corporations, political leaders, stakeholders from NGOs and unions, whistleblowers - to exchange on three key issues:

1. Democratic, human, political, financial, economic and social challenges related to whistleblower protection;
2. The diversity of European mechanisms;
3. The perspectives brought by the European directive.

This conference will take place on December 3rd, at the Defender of Rights premises, 3 place de Fontenoy, 75007 in Paris from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Ombudsman is pleased to publish the office’s first Human Rights Casebook.

This is the first time the office has published a collection of cases the Ombudsman has dealt with where human rights matters have either been raised as part of the original complaint or have been pivotal to the findings.
