El Defensor del Pueblo, Ángel Gabilondo, se ha reunido este viernes con el presidente del Consejo General del Poder Judicial, Rafael Mozo, en la sede del órgano de gobierno de los jueces.

Durante el encuentro han abordado asuntos que afectan a las dos instituciones, y en particular las quejas presentadas ante el Defensor del Pueblo relacionadas con el funcionamiento de la Administración de Justicia y referidas a las actuaciones de órganos judiciales, que son remitidas al Consejo General del Poder Judicial para su verificación y contestación por medio de informe.

Durante el año 2022, el Defensor del Pueblo remitió al CGPJ un total de 61 expedientes, de los que 56 fueron contestados dentro del año, quedando otros cinco en tramitación.

Las quejas se refieren, en la mayoría de los casos, a retrasos en la tramitación de procedimientos, en el dictado de sentencias o en el señalamiento para la vista o juicio, a tardanzas en la resolución de recursos y a problemas en la ejecución de sentencias o disfunciones e incidencias varias en juzgados y tribunales.

Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) Rob Behrens is in Stockton-on-Tees from Monday 20 to Tuesday 21 March for the first of a series of regional roadshows around the country to directly hear about issues facing members of the local community.

PHSO makes final decisions on complaints from members of the public who are not satisfied with the service they have received from the NHS in England or the UK Government and its agencies.

The Ombudsman deals with a variety of complaints from child maintenance payments, driving licences and immigration issues, to failings within the NHS such as delayed treatments, misdiagnoses, and avoidable deaths.

“When things go wrong in public services, people must be able to hold the NHS, the Government and its agencies to account so that standards improve. The Ombudsman plays an important role in helping the public get justice.

“Not everyone feels comfortable complaining or knows who to turn to for help, but we are here to listen and learn. I’m delighted to be in Stockton for our first roadshow to hear about issues facing members of the local community.

“We want to encourage people who have had a bad experience to make a complaint. By sharing their story, they can help improve public services for everyone and help stop mistakes from happening again.” 

While in Stockton, the Ombudsman will visit different sectors of the local 

community to meet people and explain his role in helping them get justice when things go wrong in public services.

PHSO will hold a free advice clinic for members of the public on Tuesday 21 March at Citizens Advice. The Ombudsman's caseworkers will be on hand to help anyone who has had issues when using a public service or the NHS. They'll talk through the process for complaints and the options available to people who want to complain.

The Ombudsman will also visit Tennant Street Medical Centre to hear about their experience of using the NHS Complaints Standards that have been trialled there. The Complaints Standards support organisations to provide a quicker, simpler and more streamlined complaint handling service for the benefit of the public.

The Ombudsman will also visit Stockton Riverside College to talk to students about his role, issues facing complainants and answer questions about life in public service.

The Ombudsman has written to the President of the European Parliament with a series of questions designed to aid the Parliament’s reflections on improving its ethics and transparency framework.

The questions follow the Ombudsman’s analysis of the 14-point draft proposals presented by President Metsola to the Conference of Presidents on 8 February and relate to areas the Ombudsman considers need greater clarity or further explanation.

Several questions concern the committee monitoring the implementation of MEPs’ Code of Conduct, asking whether it will have own-initiative powers, how its independence will be guaranteed and how its work will be made more transparent.

The Ombudsman also focused on how the various rules will be enforced, such as whether there are measures foreseen in case the suggested ‘cooling off’ period for former MEPs is not respected.

The Ombudsman reiterated the importance of transparency in the reform process and asked for planned steps and milestones to be made public.

El Defensor del Pueblo andaluz, Jesús Maeztu, se ha reunido hoy con representantes de las plataforma Marea Blanca de Sevilla, que le han trasladado sus reivindicaciones.

Entre estas, Marea Blanca ha destacado al Defensor la situación de la atención primaria, con especial hincapié en la reciente orden aprobada por la Junta de Andalucía que permite concertar la atención primaria con la sanidad privada. También se ha interesado por la salud de las personas sin hogar.

Jesús Maeztu ha incorporado al debate su preocupación por la salud mental y el riesgo de suicidios, especialmente entre la población vulnerable. Este miércoles el Defensor mantendrá una reunión de trabajo con la consejera de Sanidad y Consumo, Catalina Madueño.
