On February 20, 2024, the Deputies of the Public Defender of Georgia, Tamar Gvaramadze and Elene Ghudushauri, took part in a working meeting held in Brussels, in the European Parliament, which dealt with the issues of the rule of law, democracy and human rights in the EU enlargement countries. The event was held in a roundtable format.

At the working meeting, representatives of the national human rights institutions operating in the countries with the EU enlargement package provided Members of European Parliament with information about their work in the direction of the rule of law.

In her speech, First Deputy Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze discussed the mandate of the Public Defender and talked about the cooperation of the Office with the EU institutions and involvement in the process of integration into the European Union. She also informed the attendees of the main issues of the rule of law that are reflected in the Public Defender's special report every year, including the activities of the judiciary and independent institutions.

The meeting was organized by the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI).

Petitionsausschuss reist nach Thailand und Kambodscha

Vom 26. Februar bis 1. März 2024 besucht eine Delegation des Petitionsausschusses Thailand und Kambodscha. Im Mittelpunkt der Gespräche stehen Fragen des Petitions- und Ombudsmannwesens.

In Bangkok sind u.a. Gespräche mit dem Vorsitzenden Herrn Parit Wacharasindhu (MFP) und weiteren Mitgliedern des Ausschusses „Committee on the Development of Politics, Mass Communication and Public Participation“ sowie mit dem Chief Ombudsmann Herrn Somsak Suwansujarit geplant. Die Abgeordneten werden sich zudem mit Vertretern der thailändischen Zivilgesellschaft treffen, um sich über die Umsetzung der Menschenrechte in Thailand und die Demokratiebewegung zu informieren.

In Phnom Penh führt die Delegation Gespräche mit Mitgliedern des Ausschusses für Menschenrechte und Eingaben sowie des CHRC (Cambodian Human Rights Committee). Sie informieren sich zudem über das Projekt der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) „Bürgerservices in Kambodscha verbessern“ und treffen sich mit Vertretern der Regierung und mit Nichtregierungsorganisationen.

Die Delegation besteht aus den Abgeordneten Martina Stamm-Fibich (SPD, Ltg.), Bernhard Loos (CDU/CSU), Manfred Todtenhausen (FDP), Dirk Brandes (AfD) und Sören Pellmann (Gruppe Die Linke).

Compartir momentos para reducir la soledad

El Defensor del Pueblo-Nafarroako Arartekoa, Patxi Vera y su jefa de Gabinete, Susana Galilea acudieron a la sede de Profesionales Solidarios donde fueron recibidos por una delegación de dicha organización encabezada por su presidente, Lorenzo Dionis, y su directora, Cristina Jiménez.

En el encuentro, la asociación explicó el servicio comunitario que prestan a la sociedad y que está enfocado en el colectivo de la tercera edad. A través del voluntariado quieren aliviar la soledad y el aislamiento de las 837 personas que atienden en estos momentos y su canal de información son los servicios sociales y unidades de barrio. Su propósito es consolidar esta línea de actuación. Profesionales Solidarios, que forma parte de la Plataforma Navarra del Tercer Sector, pone especial énfasis en la formación de sus voluntarios.

Durante el encuentro, sus representantes manifestaron la falta de comunicación entre el médico de familia, trabajadoras sociales y las unidades de barrio necesaria para poder trabajar de forma coordinada y detectar las necesidades de las personas vulnerables.

Report on the 2022 activities of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights and his deputies accepted by National Assembly

On 13 December 2023, the National Assembly accepted report No. B/3378 on the 2022 Activities of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights and his Deputies with 119 votes in favour. 

In 2022, the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights issued as many as 226 reports containing a total of 169 recommendations. 5740 petitions were filed to our Office, of which 4951 cases were concluded and closed in 2022.

The Council of Europe will host a networking conference in Strasbourg from 29 February to 1 March for its Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) programme.

Legal professionals from the Council of Europe State Parties will gather to discuss HELP programme training.

FRA will present its contribution to the new course on the European Convention on Human Rights and the interplay with the EU’s Fundamental Rights Charter. FRA will also present its Charter material and tools.

While in Strasbourg, FRA will also meet a number of Council of Europe bodies to also discuss disability issues.
