El Colegio de Farmacéuticos de Zaragoza colabora con el Justicia de Aragón en la elaboración del informe especial sobre ansiedad y depresión

En la reunión que se ha mantenido esta mañana en la sede de la institución, sus representantes reconocen el aumento de las consultas sobre depresión y ansiedad y reivindican el papel activo de estos profesionales en la búsqueda de soluciones para enfrentar lo que consideran “la epidemia del siglo XXI”

La Justicia de Aragón, Concepción Gimeno, se ha reunido esta mañana con la presidenta del Colegio Oficial de Farmacéuticos de Zaragoza, Raquel García Fuentes, y con la vicepresidenta, Pilar Labat Casanova, en el marco de los trabajos preparatorios con motivo de la elaboración de un informe especial sobre ansiedad y depresión.

En el transcurso del encuentro, las representantes de los farmacéuticos de Zaragoza han reconocido que las consultas sobre ansiedad y depresión que las personas trasladan a los profesionales que trabajan en estos establecimientos han aumentado hasta el punto de considerar estos trastornos “la epidemia del siglo XXI”. Según su opinión, al aumento de estas consultas ha contribuido el hecho de que en los últimos años los diagnósticos hayan crecido y también a la falta de recursos asistenciales.

Según han descrito las representantes del Colegio de Farmacéuticos, el caso más habitual que se ve en las farmacias es el de una persona, mayoritariamente mujer con independencia de la franja de edad, que plantea síntomas de insomnio, despertares tempranos y estrés continuado.

El trato cercano y habitual de estos profesionales con los pacientes facilita que se sinceren y que puedan ofrecer una información y acompañamiento en un primer momento, hasta que la persona recibe la atención de los servicios de salud.

Cuando los síntomas son leves, es posible pautar medicamentos que no requieren receta, formulados a base de plantas medicinales. Al respecto, estos profesionales advierten que “igualmente, requieren un seguimiento para determinar la dosis más adecuada y advertir de las posibles interacciones”

Al margen de estos medicamentos basados en plantas, en la reunión se ha puesto de manifiesto que el tratamiento habitual de la depresión y de la ansiedad se realiza con ansiolíticos y antidepresivos que, únicamente, se dispensan con receta médica y requieren un seguimiento por parte del personal sanitario.

Con el objetivo de frenar el consumo de estos medicamentos y evitar que los tratamientos se acaben alargando en el tiempo, las representantes del Colegio de Zaragoza se han mostrado a favor de potenciar alternativas, basadas en redes de apoyo social, una opción que la Justicia de Aragón comparte y apoya. Igualmente, han trasladado a la Justicia su predisposición a colaborar con otras entidades y con la administración en la elaboración de estudios de deshabituación de benzodiacepinas.

Concepción Gimeno ha remarcado y valorado el papel fundamental que desempeñan los farmacéuticos, que ofrecen atención las 24 horas del día, colaboran con los médicos de atención primaria, a través del a receta electrónica, trasladando mensajes en los casos en los que es necesario informar al médico sobre una situación particular e, incluso, actuando en situaciones de urgencia, mediante la comunicación directa con los centros de salud.

En opinión de la Justicia de Aragón esta relación de proximidad favorece que las personas reconozcan su problema y pueda activarse una solución lo antes posible, al tiempo que es un remedio frente a la estigmatización de las enfermedades de salud mental

La presidenta del Colegio Oficial de Farmacéuticos de Zaragoza apuesta por un enfoque multidisciplinar del tratamiento de la depresión y de la ansiedad en el que farmacéuticos, medicina de familia, enfermería, psicólogos y grupo de apoyo trabajen de manera coordinada y con la mayor agilidad posible.

El próximo encuentro de la Justicia de Aragón con colectivos relacionados con la salud será el día 21 de mayo con los representantes del Colegio Profesional de Psicología de Aragón.  

The Public Services Ombudsman for Wales, Michelle Morris, has announced the appointment of Melissa McCullough to lead the Independent Review into the handling of Code of Conduct Complaints at PSOW.

The review will be conducted to provide assurance that its processes, for considering complaints that councillors have breached the councillor Code of Conduct, are sound and free from political bias. It will also identify lessons that can be learned from what has happened.

Melissa is the Commissioner for Standards for the Northern Ireland Assembly (since 2020) and also the Commissioner for Standards for the Jersey and Guernsey States Assemblies (since March 2023).

The European Ombudsman will meet with the Executive Director of the European Medicines Agency, Ms Emer Cooke, and the latter's management team, to discuss topics of mutual interest.

The Parliamentary Ombudsman, Judge Joseph Zammit McKeon, is attending the 13th IOI World Conference 2024, held in The Hague from 12 to 17 May. The conference, themed ‘Act Together for Our Tomorrow’, is hosted by the National Ombudsman of the Netherlands.

On the first day, Judge McKeon participated in the inaugural meeting of the new IOI European Region. The Ombudsman elected to the board last December, engaged in his first session at this gathering.

The European Region meeting reviewed the work of the outgoing board, including an update about peer reviews conducted in the UK. Discussions also covered the recently launched Ombudsman Learning Academy in Manchester and a guide on ethical principles for ombudspersons and their staff.

Further, the meeting addressed the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the conflict between Israel and Palestine in the Middle East.

This session marked the transition from the outgoing European Regional Board to the incoming members. The current Chairman of the European Regional Board, Andreas Pottakis, Ombudsman of Greece, expressed gratitude to the departing members and welcomed the new board, led by the newly elected Chair, Mr. Reinier van Zutphen, Ombudsman of the Netherlands.

Last week saw the formal launch of a new Human Rights Manual for Ombudsman staff, which aims to increase awareness and use of the human rights framework throughout the public sector. Speakers included:

Under Section 42 of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Act 2014 our Office has a legal obligation to promote equality, prevent discrimination and protect the human rights of our employees, customers, service users and everyone affected by our policies and plans (our Public Sector Duty or PSD).  In keeping with our PSD one of the key objectives of our Statement of Strategy was the introduction of a Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA) to Ombudsman complaint handling. The main purpose for adopting a HRBA to Ombudsman complaints handling is to ensure that Public Service Providers within our remit (PSPs) have regard for the human rights of the individuals they deal with on a daily basis and that the Ombudsman’s consideration of human rights is an integral part of the examination of complaints of maladministration.
