Marie Derain, Défenseure des enfants, a participé lundi 3 février au colloque « Construire un projet d’adoption pour les enfants grands » organisé par l’association Enfance et familles d’adoption, à Paris. Au sein du Défenseur des droits un groupe de travail appelé « Intérêt supérieur de l’enfant » propose des repères et des recommandations sur lesquels s’appuyer afin de déterminer et de prendre en considération l’intérêt de l’enfant dans la prise de décisions le concernant. Un des axes de travail étant la prise en compte de l’intérêt de l’enfant dans les procédures d’adoption, tant nationales qu’internationales.

Commenting on the press release issued yesterday (30 January, 2014) by the Nursing & Midwifery Council, Julie Mellor, Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman said:

“The Nursing and Midwifery Council’s decision to undertake this review is a huge step towards improving safety in midwifery, which could save lives. Our report identified a potential conflict of interest between midwifery regulation and supervision, which could lead to tragic consequences. This is an important step forward; we look forward to our recommendations being implemented.”
